MICHIGAN: Traverse City - Iceman Cometh - RESULTS PHOTOS It took hard charging, world class competition to knock the locals off the podium in the north woods today. Switzerland's Lukas Fluckinger (Trek World Racing) got the win yesterday in the 29 mile point to point Iceman Cometh MTB race. Fluckinger, second in the 2005 U23 World Championships, was followed by Jeremiah Bishop (Cannondale), Pan American Gold Medalist and 12 time member of the US Cycling Team, and in third was Sam Schultz (Subaru-Trek) 2006 U23 US MTB Cross-Country national champion, and 8 time World Championship team member. Local favorite Brian Matter (Gear Grinder) washed out on a turn in the final km that ruined his chances at winning the Midwest MTB triple crown trophy, and his Sheboygan, WI neighbor Tristan Schouten (Mafia Racing) just didn't have the legs to get him the repeat win he was looking for. In the women's race, 2009 XC National Champion Heather Irminger (Subaru-Trek) earned top spot on the podium over Chloe Woodruff (BMC MTN Devel.) and Canadian national team member Catharine Pendrel (Luna Chix). Both the men and women winners took home checks for $5,000.
