INDIANA: Yorktown - Lion of the Den RESULTS PHOTOS By Robert Annis For Planet Adventure

For the second week in a row, two Marian University students dominated the elite fields at Planet Adventure’s Lion of the Den cyclocross race in Yorktown Saturday. Jackie Kurth, who finished third in last week’s Planet Adventure race, overcame some early crashes to beat second-place finisher Janelle Renschler of the Speedway Wheelmen by more than a minute. The two had been racing neck-and-neck for the early part of the race, but Kurth pulled away right before the third lap. “Janelle had a blip on the course, so I took advantage of it,” Kurth said. “I put the hammer down and was able to settle in.” Kurth said she was able to take additional time out of Renschler on the many hilly sections of the course as well. Bob’s Red Mill racer Nicole Borem rounded out the women’s podium.

In the men’s field, Weston Luzadder, riding for the elite Nuvo Cycling Team, won by nearly a minute over J’s Bikes Andrew Boneff. Speedway Wheelmen racer Josh Prater finished a strong third.

Luzadder, who finished fourth last week, allowed Boneff to set the tempo for the first lap, then attacked immediately after.

“He was going pretty hard that first lap,” Luzadder said. “When we hit the pavement, I decided to go for it and see what cards he was holding.” Boneff wasn’t able to match Luzadder’s sudden acceleration, allowing the Marian student to open up a sizeable gap.

Marian’s Josh Johnson and Katie Antonneau won their respective elite races the week before on a course just a few short pedal strokes off the Marian campus. Planet Adventure will return to the course Nov. 19 for the second of three races this season.

MINNESOTA: Taylor Falls - Red Barn Classic RESULTS James Cullen of MCF.Net takes us through the race: "
The elite men's field included all of the local heavy hitters, minus an injured Adam Bergman (Specialized), and a resting Jordan Cullen (Clif Bar Development). Roeser took the hole shot, but it was teammate Fisher who quickly gained front position and pushed the pace. Faulkner suffered an early mechanical, dropping him all the way to last place. It took him over a lap to regain the front of the race, which included Fisher, Lemeiux, Pierre, Roeser, Jesse Rients (Kuhl/Bicycle Fit Guru), Brian Koeneman (Team Wheel and Sprocket), and Matt Allen (Behind Bars/LGR). By the 3rd lap, Faulkner and Roeser were alone on the front, with Lemieux chasing solo. As the lead duo pulled away, Lemieux was joined by Pierre, Fisher, and Rients. It was this battle for 3rd which quickly became the exciting part of the race, as each rider took turns attacking. After Roeser took the victory, it was Pierre, with his signature mustache bars, who gained the upper hand and won the battle for 3rd.
This event is famous for it's costume contest, and there are sure to be incrementing photos floating around the internet. We found Waldo, a Sandbagger, Spiderman, Superwoman, Muscle Man in a speedo, and top gun "Maverick". Oliver "Waffle Man" Vrambout was the only elite men's rider who had the courage to race in full costume, and what a clown he was. Go Oli!"

MINNESOTA: Rosemount Cross Night CX RESULTS Again from MCF.Net: "Crossnight makes it's return, after debuting in 2010. The event is the 2nd of 4 events in the $1400 Lazer Sport Cyclocross Super Series." "Crossniacs teammates Josh Roeser (also sponsored by Bicycle Fit Guru) and CJ Faulkner broke away together under the lights in the elite men's race at Crossnight, with Faulkner taking the win from Roeser. A repeat performance of the day before at Red Barn, these two were initially part of a 4 man group including Jordan Cullen (Clif Bar Devo) and Pat Lemieux (Specialized). Roeser attacked the group with 3 of 10 laps complete, leaving Faulkner to sit on while Cullen and Lemieux chased. Cullen was in the process of closing the gap to Roeser when he flatted. Lemieux was able to bring Faulkner up to Roeser, only to see CJ counter attack and get away. Shortly after, Roeser dropped Lemieux, and joined he teammate at the front. From there the pair worked together to gain a maximum of 30 seconds over a chase group of half a dozen riders. Cullen switched bikes, joined, and then attacked the chase group with only Jesse Rients (Kuhl/Bicycle Fit Guru) able to follow. The chasing pair brought the gap to the leaders down to 20 seconds, but ran out of time, and Cullen had to settle for 3rd place in front of Rients. Another Crossniacs rider, Chris Fisher, finished 5th."

Lots of Tricks, Few Treats at Choco-X

In thousands of years, after paleontologist and archaeologist have exhumed the remains of woolly mammoth and saber tooth tigers from the last tar pit and turn their heads to the Chocolay mud pits, how will they explain the bodies, clothed in macabre costumes, straddling curious, wheeled steeds of carbon, aluminum and steel pushed deep into what must have been endless pits of oozing mud? Will they be able to reconstruct the blood sport of cyclocross that took place at this site? Will our ancestors live on to tell the tale of cyclocross? Would they be believed? Perhaps this race report, though brief and cryptic - will live on to tell what transpired that fateful day in October 2011.

Once again, Choco-X race director Tom Mahaney laid out one of the most challenging courses of the season. In addition to the infamous, well-irrigated mud pit, the nearly fifty racers who competed were forced to navigate sand pits, a challenging off-camber turn with run-up and strong electromagnetic fields, logs, standard cx barriers, and hoards of heckling spectators.
