WISCONSIN: Hales Corners - RESULTSPHOTOS Under mostly sunny skies and cool, but seasonable temperatures, the annual Whitnall Park Spring Classic was held with a great turnout. The course is somewhat "D" shaped, but with only one real turn that's almost a hairpin that leads into a longish, gentle climb that never seems to end. It is a tough course to get away on and despite numerous attacks in all categories, it wasn't until the featured Pro 1/2 event that a break was successful. Johathan Heile (Erik's) and Alexander Martin (KS Energy) escaped on the last lap and was able to hold off the chasing pack of wolves for the win and second place respectively. This was Heile's first win on the road in his long career beginning as a young junior, besting Martin who has had numerous wins as a Cat. 3 on the road, and as a Cat. 2 in 'cross. Martin is the 2012 Cat. 3 Wisconsin State Criterium Champion.

Also on the day's calendar this year was a Cat 5 racer clinic, prepping riders on the basics of safety in racing and Team Wisconin's website has a nice recap of this successful addition to the race (photos). "We need to find ways to encourage riders to try a WCA race and provide an enjoyable experience, because I believe once they do they will be hooked for years to come" Team Wisconsin president Dave Eckel said.
